Chile launches 'Minería en Marcha' plan to restore mining after severe storms

Chile's Ministry of Mining announced the "Minería en Marcha" program to accelerate the recovery of small and medium‑scale mining operations in the northern regions of Coquimbo and Atacama that were hit by a recent frontal system causing floods and road damage. The plan, presented by Vice Minister of Economy and Mining Daniel Mas and Subsecretary of Mining Álvaro González, focuses on three pillars: restoring access to 168 mining‑roadways, ensuring safety for workers, and providing financial and technical support to restart operations.

Implementation will be coordinated among the Ministry of Mining, the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin), the National Mining Company (ENAMI) and BancoEstado, with additional equipment supplied by 23 large and medium mining firms. The program aims to protect the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on the sector and to bring mining activity back to productive levels as quickly and safely as possible.
