Chile launches National Circular Economy Agenda in Romeral

Chilean Minister of the Environment, Francisca Toledo, has launched the National Circular Economy Agenda in the Maule Region. The initiative, part of the ‘Chile Regenera’ plan, aims to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste over the next two years to promote more responsible management.

In the commune of Romeral, a campaign to collect end-of-life tires (NFU) was inaugurated to prevent illegal dumping in urban and rural areas. This effort includes a collaboration agreement between the Municipality of Romeral and the ‘Valora Más’ management system, facilitating the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) Law. The law requires collective management systems to finance the collection and valorization of conventional tires to mitigate environmental risks such as microplastic release and long-term degradation.
