Chile launches National Digital Plan to advance 5G and 6G connectivity

Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) has introduced the National Digital Plan 2026-2036, a strategic roadmap designed to establish the country as Latin America's digital hub. The plan aims to unlock projected investments of US$2 billion in telecommunications by 2030 and US$160 billion in data centers and cloud services by 2050. Key objectives include preparing infrastructure for 5G, 5.5G, and future 6G technologies, as well as phasing out 3G networks.

To support this transition, Subtel has signed an agreement with OnLab, with support from Corfo, to accelerate the adoption of advanced connectivity. This two-year partnership will focus on pilot tests and real-world projects in sectors such as mining, health, logistics, and agriculture. The collaboration intends to integrate artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity to boost national productivity and strengthen digital infrastructure.
