Chile launches National Space System Geoportal
Chile has launched the web platform and Geoportal of its National Space System at the National Space Center (CEN), located at the Los Cerrillos Air Base. The initiative is a key milestone in the implementation of the National Space Program.
The Geoportal is designed to centralize satellite imagery, geospatial data, and other information into a single platform. While developed within the defense sector, the tool is intended for use by various state agencies, the scientific community, and the general public. A mobile application was also announced to allow users to consult data and upload information from the field, which could prove useful during emergencies such as fires, flooding, or road closures.
Defense Minister Fernando Barros emphasized that these capabilities are not strictly military in nature but are intended to contribute to the country's scientific development, progress, and decision-making processes.
