Chile launches nationwide school computer rollout with first delivery in Visviri

National education director Fernando Peña Rivera handed over the first set of laptops to eight seventh‑grade students at the Visviri Internado School, marking the official start of Chile’s Beca TIC 2026 program. The program will distribute more than 96 000 new computers to students across the country, including 1 264 devices for the Arica and Parinacota region. Each unit features an N150 processor, 128 GB SSD, full‑HD screen, a year of free internet, anti‑theft tracking, AI tools and over 65 educational software titles.

The rollout, backed by an investment exceeding 34 billion Chilean pesos, aims to improve digital access and support modern learning. Subsequent deliveries are planned for Putre, where the national Junaeb director will oversee distribution to 30 seventh‑graders at Liceo Internado Granaderos. Officials emphasized the initiative’s role in fostering creativity, innovation and critical thinking among students.
