Chile launches plan to strengthen technical-professional education

Chile's Ministry of Education has introduced “Somos TP”, a new plan designed to strengthen technical-professional education and enhance its connection with the labor market. The initiative aims to improve coordination between educational institutions and employers, focusing on equipment, alternating training models, and industry alignment.

Technical-professional education currently serves over 170,000 students in secondary education, with one in three students in the final years of high school pursuing a technical specialty. In higher education, technical training centers and professional institutes account for 44.7% of the total enrollment, representing approximately 613,300 students.

Industry experts note that these programs offer high employability, with some sectors reporting over 90% employment rates within the first year of graduation. Key areas of demand include health, engineering, IT, administration, and education. The sector is increasingly vital for industries facing talent shortages, such as mining, energy, and logistics, often providing competitive salaries that rival traditional university degrees.
