Chile launches public consultation to update adventure tourism safety standards

Chile's Undersecretariat of Tourism, Sernatur, and the National Institute of Normalization (INN) have launched a public consultation to update technical standards for adventure tourism activities. The consultation period runs from September 21 to October 11, allowing citizens, organizations, and companies to provide feedback on safety and regulatory requirements.

The current update focuses on three specific aquatic activities: rafting (NCh2991:2006), canoeing (NCh2996:2006), and wave sliding, which includes surfing, bodyboarding, and kneeboarding (NCh3023:2006). This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen safety standards within the adventure tourism sector.

This process follows previous regulatory updates that revised 15 of the 24 existing technical standards, including the incorporation of new regulations for bungee jumping. While some activities like hiking and biodiversity observation are currently undergoing further technical analysis, the updated standards aim to facilitate better application and inspection of safety parameters for service providers.
