Chile lawmakers push for expanded agricultural emergency aid

Senator María José Gatica called on the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly provide an emergency bonus and conduct on‑site damage assessments for small farmers in the Los Ríos region after intense rains, floods and waterlogging damaged crops, pasture, livestock and infrastructure.

Deputy Cristóbal Martínez urged the government to extend the agricultural emergency decree to the Ñuble region, noting that the current decree covers only Atacama, Coquimbo and Valparaíso despite severe losses to crops, greenhouses and beekeeping in Ñuble. Both legislators emphasized the need for urgent state tools and financial support for affected silvo‑agricultural producers.
