Chile leads Latin America in water and sanitation rankings

Chile has secured the top position in Latin America and the Caribbean for drinking water, sanitation, and wastewater treatment according to the 2026 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) released by Yale University. The report highlights Chile's leadership in water security and sanitary infrastructure. Notably, 100% of collected wastewater in urban areas is treated in plants before being returned to water bodies or reused.

In a related development regarding environmental technical competence, the EULA-Chile Environmental Science Center from the University of Concepción achieved a 100% satisfactory result in a proficiency test conducted by the Superintendency of the Environment (SMA). The test evaluated the analytical performance of technical entities in determining 13 different metals in industrial wastewater. EULA-Chile shared first place among eight national entities, validating its scientific rigor in environmental monitoring and fiscalization.
