Chile marks Glorias Navales holiday and celebrates Día del Completo on May 24

Chile observed the Glorias Navales public holiday on Thursday, 21 May 2024. The next national holidays are Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday, 21 June and San Pedro y San Pablo on Monday, 29 June, the latter creating a three‑day weekend.

On Sunday, 24 May, Chileans celebrated Día del Completo, a day dedicated to the country’s iconic hot‑dog sandwich. Catherine Escobar, Commercial Manager of El Carnicero, said the most popular varieties are the “Italiano” and the “Dinámico,” noting that the snack’s success lies in its flavor, versatility and quick preparation. The celebration encourages homemade preparation and visits to local vendors offering a range of toppings and sauces.
