Chile MP Diego Schalper denounces Pamela Jiles and “pamelajilismo”

Renovación Nacional deputy Diego Schalper sharply rebuked opposition lawmaker Pamela Jiles after she accused him of acting as a “leader of the opposition” to President José Antonio Kast. In an interview, Schalper labeled Jiles’ political style as “pamelajilismo,” a tactic he says seeks to divide the country, and defended his vote against the constitutional accusation against former minister Nicolás Grau.

Schalper insisted he is part of the government, not an opponent, and warned that intra‑government disputes should not distract from addressing citizens’ problems. He also criticized what he described as “virtual cancellation” on the right, urging Chile to move beyond partisan enmity as Kast works to consolidate the ruling coalition.

Jiles, whose party PDG has a small parliamentary presence, rejected Schalper’s characterization, maintaining that she is simply challenging the administration’s policies.
