Chile officials Oróstegui and Contreras respond to controversy

Julia Oróstegui Beovic, the newly appointed executive director of the SLEP Puerto Cordillera, defended herself against questions about a medical‑leave related administrative resolution from March 2026. She said the trip to Tacna, Peru, was for urgent medical treatment, not a vacation, and confirmed that the administrative process is closed with no legal impediment to her role.

Camila Contreras Pereira, former Seremi of Women for the Biobío region, clarified a statement she posted on her last day in office that described the role as a “torture.” She emphasized the comment reflected personal fatigue from media exposure rather than a political critique, noting she had resigned in March 2026 but remained in the post to protect her maternal leave rights.

Both officials highlighted personal challenges and procedural outcomes while asserting they remain free to continue their public duties.
