Chile opposition prepares multiple constitutional challenges to megareform

Opposition leaders in Chile met at the Socialist Party headquarters to coordinate legal actions against the government's megareform. They agreed to file at least two requests with the Constitutional Court—one from the Chamber of Deputies and one from the Senate—targeting tax invariability and the Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA). The plan could expand to four requests, with each chamber potentially submitting separate petitions on the same issues. Senators and deputies, including Raúl Leiva and Alfonso de Urresti, said the strategy aims to present complementary challenges in both chambers.

Legal teams, initially coordinated by constitutional scholar Tomás Jordán, will continue preparing the filings. The opposition hopes the court reviews will delay or modify the reform's implementation, particularly concerning fiscal stability and environmental safeguards.
