Chile blocks nearly 2,000 pirate TV and streaming websites
Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) has blocked 1,954 web addresses linked to illegal IPTV and streaming services between June and October. The measure follows a ruling by the 19th Civil Court of Santiago, which upheld a legal action by Warner Bros. regarding intellectual property rights violations.
The crackdown targets major platforms including MagisTV, FlujoTV, XuperTV, Cuevana, Oleada TV, Stella TV, TeleLatino, PelisPlus, Cinecalidad, and Fútbol Libre, along with their various mirror sites and dynamic domains. Subtel has issued regulatory orders to major internet service providers—including GTD, DirecTV, Entel, WOM, Mundo, ClaroVTR, Netline, and Movistar—who are required to implement the restrictions within five days.
Subsecretaria Romina Garrido emphasized that using pirate services poses significant cybersecurity risks, noting that such platforms can expose users to cybercrime, including the theft of banking credentials, personal data, and device hacking. The enforcement has scaled progressively, with 765 URLs blocked in October alone.
