Chile authorizes travel salvoconducto for Venezuelans

The Chilean government has authorized the use of a travel salvoconducto to allow Venezuelan citizens with expired passports to depart the country. This measure aims to resolve travel uncertainties for migrants who had purchased tickets but were unable to board due to document issues. The decision follows a period of tension at airports where the lack of consular relations between Chile and Venezuela complicated travel. While the salvoconducto facilitates departure, authorities noted that individuals who entered Chile through unauthorized crossings will still face entry prohibitions.

In Venezuela, several state institutions are organizing large-scale service events. A major multi-agency operation is scheduled for October 1, 2026, at the Círculo Militar La Rinconada in Caracas. This event will provide access to identity card renewals via Saime, tax updates through Seniat, and driver's license processing via the INTT. Additionally, the event will offer food supplies through the Mercal network, telecommunications support from Movilnet, and various health and financial services.

Separately, Saime has launched a special citizen service period in Caracas at Plaza de la Juventud, allowing for identity card renewals without prior appointments through September 26.
