Chile police seize over 195 kg of cocaine in San Pedro de Atacama

Chile's anti‑narcotics police and the Tamarugal prosecutor's office intercepted a truck in the Hito Cajón sector of San Pedro de Atacama, seizing more than 195 kg of illicit substances, including over 186 kg of cocaine. The haul, valued at about 3.8 billion Chilean pesos, is the largest cocaine seizure recorded by the PDI in the Tarapacá region.

The operation, carried out by the PDI’s Brigada Antinarcóticos of Iquique with support from the internal border group, uncovered a double‑bottom vehicle used to transport the drugs from the north to the Santiago metropolitan area. Two suspects were arrested, placed in preventive detention, and the investigation – which lasted four months – was assigned a 120‑day deadline. Authorities indicated the case may be linked to other recent investigations using similar trafficking methods.
