Chile police seize over 6,000 counterfeit items in Calama
Chile's Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) and the Public Ministry seized more than 6,000 counterfeit clothing items and accessories in the city of Calama. The operation targeted stores in the Galería Las Violetas and the Feria Modelo, removing 6,052 garments and 229 accessories valued at about 484 million Chilean pesos.
Six people were arrested – four Peruvian nationals, one Ecuadorian and one Chilean – and placed under national arrest while a 100‑day investigation proceeds. The seized merchandise will be handed to the National Customs Service of Antofagasta for destruction. Subcomisaria Daniela Balloqui Marcel said, “The commercialization of counterfeit products is a crime that violates industrial and intellectual property rights, causes economic harm to brands and fuels unfair competition.”
