Chile postpones tax payments for 74 communes amid storm front

Chile's Internal Revenue Service (SII), together with the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury, announced an extension of the June tax payment deadline for 74 communes severely affected by the recent frontal weather system. The original deadline of July 20 has been moved to October 30, and fines and interest on the June taxes are waived for the affected areas.

The list of eligible communes spans the regions of Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, Maule, Biobío, La Araucanía and Los Ríos, covering towns such as Tierra Amarilla, La Serena, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Rancagua, Pichilemu, Cauquenes, Arauco and Pucón, among others. The measure is intended to alleviate the fiscal burden on taxpayers in the zones most impacted by the severe storms.

The extension provides a new window until October 30 for residents and businesses in the designated communes to settle their June tax obligations without incurring penalties.
