Chile prepares logistics for Calama's Ayquina and Pelequén's Santa Rosa festivals

The Municipality of Calama has begun preparations for the upcoming Fiesta de Ayquina, a traditional religious celebration held on September 8 that is expected to draw more than 70,000 attendees. Coordination meetings with the Provincial Presidential Delegation of El Loa have been held, and a work plan focusing on logistics, security, water tanks, tents, amplification, space distribution, bathroom installation and other services is being implemented. Municipal units are also carrying out preventive actions such as street cleaning, waste removal, water‑tank maintenance, electrical inspections and infrastructure deployment to ensure smooth operation of the festival.

In Pelequén, authorities are preparing for the Santa Rosa celebration that will run from August 2 to September 6, 2026. The program includes masses, processions, pilgrimages and a traditional novena. Organizers are urging pilgrims to replace customary candles and flowers with non‑perishable food donations for vulnerable families. Carabineros, led by General Guillermo Bohle Guichaco, are designing a security operation in coordination with the Malloa municipality to protect the thousands of faithful expected at the event.
