Chile President José Antonio Kast appoints new security subsecretaries amid cabinet shake‑up

President José Antonio Kast renamed the leadership of Chile’s Ministry of Public Security, naming María del Pilar Giannini Bravo as subsecretary of Security Public and Gonzalo Guerrero Valle as subsecretary of Crime Prevention. The appointments followed the resignations of Andrés Jouannet, who had left the Subsecretariat of Security Public, and Ana Victoria Quintana, who stepped down from the Subsecretariat of Crime Prevention.

Hours after his dismissal, Jouannet was reassigned to a role within the presidential office’s “Second Floor” team under Alejandro Irarrázaval. Meanwhile, former subsecretary Quintana publicly criticized the government for insufficient communication support to ex‑minister of Public Security Trinidad Steinert, noting that a security plan had been prepared but not effectively presented.

The reshuffle reflects Kast’s effort to reinforce coordination on public security, crime prevention and response to organized crime, while internal party reactions highlighted tensions over the changes.
