Chile President José Antonio Kast faces 52% disapproval in new poll

A recent poll by the Centre for Public Studies surveyed 1,469 Chileans across 122 communes and found that 52% disapprove of President José Antonio Kast’s handling of government, while 34% express approval. Respondents highlighted security, health and education as the three most urgent priorities, with 45% rating the country’s economic situation as poor.

The Teachers’ Union, led by Mario Aguilar Arévalo, echoed these concerns, stressing that education remains a top public priority and condemning budget cuts to health and education. The union also pointed to high disapproval of Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, whose fiscal adjustment policies have triggered widespread criticism and protests across the country.

Public demonstrations against Kast’s policies have intensified, with student marches and large rallies in Santiago drawing thousands of participants and resulting in numerous arrests.
