Chile President Kast outlines job‑creation plan at fifth cabinet meeting

President José Antonio Kast began his fifth cabinet meeting, marking 100 days in office, and highlighted three priority areas: the emergency, the economy and employment. He promoted the interministerial job table, launched last week and chaired by the ministers of Economy, Labor, Women and the regional development undersecretary, which aims to create 50,000 jobs by October through coordination with regional governments and municipalities.

Kast noted that Chile’s unemployment has averaged above 8 % for more than 40 months, with female unemployment at 10.5 % and youth unemployment over 20 %. He stressed the need for action on the megareform slated for a Senate vote. The meeting also addressed the situation of 64 Haitian minors who entered the country; 52 have already been placed in suitable care, per the Social Development minister.

The cabinet discussed advancing investment projects and the upcoming parliamentary vote on reconstruction measures, underscoring the administration’s focus on boosting employment during the winter months.
