Chile President Kast unveils water reservoir projects, prison relocation and social aid measures

President José Antonio Kast used his first public account to detail a series of infrastructure and social initiatives for Chile. In the Ñuble region, the government confirmed that construction of the Zapallar and Punilla reservoirs will proceed, with electric certification already received for Punilla, and announced plans to move the Chillán central prison to a new regional site, adding 20,000 new penitentiary places.

The administration also set macro‑economic targets of 4 % growth and a 6 % unemployment rate, aiming to create about 300,000 jobs. Social measures include freezing public transport fares and paraffin prices for winter, providing a LPG subsidy to the most vulnerable, a 30,000‑peso monthly payment for children in low‑income families, and a programme that contacted 99 % of the 33,000 people on health wait‑lists. A migration plan to accelerate the departure of people who entered illegally was also announced.
