Chile President Kast urged to act tougher as parliamentary tensions rise

Former Senate president Manuel José Ossandón called on President José Antonio Kast to adopt a harder line in governing, warning that the administration must use its authority to push the “megarreforma” forward and avoid ongoing clashes with legislators. He defended Senate president Paulina Núñez’s role in seeking cross‑party agreements and suggested Kast emulate the firm stance of former President Ricardo Lagos.

Political analyst Roberto Munita noted that both the governing coalition and the opposition are experiencing growing internal disputes, with the officialist bloc already feeling the “honeymoon” period ending after just three months in office. He warned of an “dark political winter” for Chile, citing a lack of cohesive leadership in the Socialist Party and fragmented opposition that can only unite against Kast’s government.
