Chile President Kast's First Public Account Prompts Regional Development Calls and Football Match Rescheduling

Ahead of President José Antonio Kast’s inaugural public account, regional leaders in Chile’s Biobío region urged the government for a special allocation of resources to tackle the area’s high unemployment and accelerate reconstruction projects. Governor Sergio Giacaman, Concepción mayor Héctor Muñoz and other municipal officials called for concrete investment in infrastructure, the Central Market rebuild, and transport links to revitalise the regional economy.

The same event also affected the sports schedule in Valparaíso. Security forces were redeployed for the public account, forcing the Primera B match between Santiago Wanderers and Unión Española to be moved to an earlier kickoff and to limit the stadium’s capacity to 7,000 spectators. The clubs expressed disappointment over the reduced attendance, while authorities cited insufficient police presence as the reason for the change.
