Universidad de Chile draws 2-2 with Unión La Calera as coach Gago faces criticism

Universidad de Chile played Unión La Calera to a 2-2 draw in the Chilean Primera División. The hosts led 2-0 before the second half, but lost composure and conceded two goals, finishing the match level. Coach Fernando Gago said the team “rushed and lost control” after the break and lamented missed opportunities to extend the lead.

Former Universidad de Chile manager César Vaccia analysed the game, pinpointing a tactical flaw in the midfield. Vaccia argued that the team’s defensive shape collapsed after the interval, leaving the midfield exposed and allowing La Calera to dominate. He criticised Gago’s substitutions, saying they failed to address the defensive weakness, and highlighted the lack of midfield protection as the key reason for dropping points.
