Chile proposes delaying personal data protection law until 2027
The Chilean Government has submitted a bill to the Senate proposing to postpone the implementation of Law 21.719, regarding the protection and processing of personal data, until December 1, 2027. The law was previously scheduled to take effect in December 2026.
Experts suggest that this delay should be viewed as an opportunity for organizations to improve internal governance rather than a reason to pause preparations. Key recommendations for companies include conducting a diagnostic of what personal data they hold and for what purpose, reviewing internal processes and third-party contracts, and integrating data protection with cybersecurity capabilities.
