Chile public trust in government drops to historic low

An OECD survey of 38 member and partner countries carried out in September–November 2025 shows Chileans’ confidence in the State fell to 25.7%, down from 30.4% in 2023, representing one of the steepest declines among the participants.

The poll also recorded low trust in specific institutions: 55% in the armed forces, 49% in the police, and only 24% in the judiciary. Trust in public officials stood at 20%, well below the OECD average of 45%.

A separate CEP poll reported in La Tercera highlights broader political cynicism, noting that 65% of Chileans do not identify with any party and 67% doubt that presidential candidate José Kast will fulfill his promises.
