Chile pushes ahead with Embalse Bollenar dam and Aconcagua refinery upgrades
Subsecretary of Agriculture Francesco Venezian visited Rengo in the O'Higgins Region to review progress on the Embalse Bollenar reservoir project. The dam, a priority of President Gabriel Kast, is expected to secure water for about 1,500 farmers and 9,000 hectares of agricultural land. Venezian warned that the effort has already taken 14 years of study and urged faster implementation, saying, “Llevamos unos 14 años de estudio… no puede ser que… perdamos 12‑15 años…”.
In Valparaíso, Regional Energy Seremi Celso Quezada inspected the Enap Aconcagua refinery in Concón and the Quintero maritime terminal. He highlighted the complex operation that ensures a continuous and safe fuel supply for the country, noting, “permite disponer de combustibles de manera segura y continua para el país”. Both visits underscore the government’s emphasis on strengthening Chile’s water security and energy reliability through coordinated infrastructure projects.
