The Superintendency of Social Security (Suseso) reported a 12.3% decrease in the issuance of electronic medical licenses between January and September 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. A total of 5,155,495 licenses were issued during the first nine months of the year.
In September, common-origin medical leaves fell by 4.3% compared to the previous year. This downward trend was observed across both Fonasa and Isapre systems, as well as among different genders and across public and private sectors. Specifically, common-origin leaves with a formal pronouncement saw a cumulative drop of 13.2%.
Suseso acting superintendent Patricia Soto stated that the decline demonstrates the effectiveness of control tools, data-driven inspections, and new legal sanctions. While mental health disorders remain the primary cause for medical leave, they also saw a significant reduction of 24.3%.
