Chile scooter commuting accidents rise 36.9% in early 2026

Commuter accidents involving scooters in Chile increased by 36.9% during the first half of 2026. According to data from Achs, 501 incidents were recorded between January and June, compared to 366 during the same period in 2025. These accidents occurred during direct travel between home and work.

While men account for 56.2% of total cases, women saw the most significant growth with a 52.1% increase in accidents. The highest concentration of incidents occurred among workers aged 18 to 30 (40.6%) and those aged 31 to 40 (39%).

Risk is highest during morning hours, with 57.9% of accidents occurring between 07:00 and 11:59. Geographically, Las Condes recorded the highest number of incidents (69), followed by La Florida (48), Santiago (39), Providencia (33), and Ñuñoa (19).

Alberto Escobar, executive secretary of Conaset, attributed the rise to a low perception of risk and reckless behavior among users. Authorities recommend that scooter users adhere to all traffic regulations and wear helmets at all times.
