Chile Supreme Court orders removal of gates blocking dialysis patient access in Maipú

The Chilean Supreme Court ruled that the Municipality of Maipú must remove two security gates installed at the entrance to Pasaje Los Diamantes within 30 days. The decision follows a protection claim filed by resident Jorge Campuzano, who requires thrice‑weekly hemodialysis and argued that the gates obstructed his route and prevented ambulance access to his home. The Court found the gates were placed without the required municipal authorization and that security reasons do not justify closing a public thoroughfare. The municipality announced it will comply with the order and restore free passage through the passage.

The case overturns an earlier ruling by the Santiago Court of Appeals and underscores the requirement for proper permits when altering public streets, especially when essential medical services are affected.
