Chile transitions to daylight saving time

Most of Chile has transitioned to daylight saving time, with clocks advancing one hour. While the Aysén, Magallanes, and Chilean Antarctic regions are excluded, the change affects mainland Chile and specific islands like Rapa Nui.

Experts suggest that the transition requires an adaptation period of approximately three to four days. To mitigate disruptions to sleep and routine, specialists recommend maintaining stable sleep and wake times, avoiding heavy meals or caffeine close to bedtime, and limiting screen use at night to protect melatonin production.

For children, psychological advisors from Fonoinfancia and Fundación Integra emphasize the importance of respecting individual rhythms. They recommend explaining the change to children in age-appropriate terms and gradually adjusting meal and rest schedules to help them manage the shift in natural light and daily routines.
