Chile unemployment presents challenges for professional reinvention

Unemployment has emerged as a primary economic and social concern in Chile, impacting not only individual income but also psychological well-being, including uncertainty and frustration.

Patricio Yuras Maltés, Director of Business Administration Engineering at Universidad Central, suggests that professional reinvention and adaptability are becoming as vital as accumulated experience. He notes that attempting to secure the exact same role, industry, or salary as a previous position can lead to prolonged unemployment in a changing market.

Alternative paths such as entrepreneurship, consulting, teaching, and independent projects are highlighted as ways to maintain income and build new networks. However, the analysis emphasizes that individual adaptation cannot replace the broader need for Chile to recover economic growth, investment, and job creation capacity.
