Emilio Shea suffers severe knee injury during Chile-Uruguay rugby brawl

A match between Chile XV and Uruguay XV in the Americas Rugby Championship descended into chaos following a violent brawl and a severe injury to Chilean player Emilio Shea. During the second half of the match in Talcahuano, an illegal tackle by Uruguayan player Joaquín Myszka on Shea triggered a massive fight between both teams.

The incident resulted in three red cards: Myszka, along with the captains of both teams, Clemente Saavedra (Chile) and Lucas Bianchi (Uruguay). Authorities are expected to hold hearings to determine sanctions for the players involved.

Chile Rugby has confirmed that Emilio Shea suffered a serious multiligamentary injury to his right knee, involving a suspected complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament. Medical experts estimate a recovery period of approximately 12 months, which places his participation in the 2027 Rugby World Cup in doubt.
