Chile weather alerts issued for Los Lagos and Biobío regions

Authorities in Chile have issued warnings regarding severe weather conditions across different regions. In the Los Lagos region, Senapred warned of the potential for tornadoes or waterspouts following sightings of funnel clouds over Lake Llanquihue. Mitzio Riquelme, the regional director of Senapred, noted that while these formations are often visually striking micro-scale phenomena, they can pose risks if they touch land. Authorities have advised boaters to avoid these clouds and suggested that people on land seek underground shelter if possible.

Simultaneously, a Preventive Early Warning has been activated for the Biobío region due to forecasted intense winds. The event is expected to last from the morning of Saturday, September 5, through the morning of Sunday, September 6. Wind gusts are projected to reach up to 100 km/h in the mountains, 80 km/h in the foothills, 70 km/h in the valleys, and 50 km/h along the coast. Senapred has urged residents to secure roofs, prune risky trees, and remove loose objects to mitigate potential damage.
