Extreme weather affects Latin America with heat, rain, and frost

Various regions across Latin America are experiencing extreme weather conditions, ranging from intense heat to severe frost and heavy rainfall.

In Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the National Weather Service has issued heat advisories due to high temperatures and humidity, with heat indices potentially reaching 105°F. Additionally, a tropical wave and Saharan dust are affecting air quality and moisture levels.

In Chile, meteorological authorities have issued warnings for heavy rainfall in the northern regions, including Antofagasta and Atacama, which could trigger flash floods and landslides. The Coquimbo region is also expecting several days of rain. Furthermore, an agrometeorological warning is in effect for central and southern regions, including Valparaíso and Biobío, where frost and temperatures as low as -3°C are expected to impact agriculture and road safety.

Argentina is facing significant cold fronts. Multiple cities, including Esquel and Maquinchao, have recorded temperatures well below freezing. The National Meteorological Service has issued alerts for extreme cold in various provinces, particularly in the Buenos Aires area, where frost and low maximum temperatures are expected to persist.
