Cámara de Cuentas completes SENASA corruption investigation
The Dominican Republic's Cámara de Cuentas has concluded a special investigation into the National Health Insurance (SENASA) scandal. The probe was requested by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA).
The investigation involved complex procedures, including a partnership with Microsoft to decrypt contracts and bypass blocked computer systems. The audit was divided into three components: a special investigation into contracts, a financial audit of the entire management, and a specialized component regarding medications.
The report has been delivered to the audited entity for review. Under legal guidelines, the institution has 45 days to submit justifications and corrections before the final findings are sent to the Public Ministry and published. The case involves more than a dozen defendants, including former director Santiago Hazim, who is currently under preventive detention.
