Gabriel Prieto, prominent Chilean actor, dies at 65

Chilean actor Gabriel Prieto Escolar has passed away at the age of 65. His death was confirmed by the ChileActores corporation, which honored his significant contributions to the nation's performing arts.

Prieto was a prominent figure in both theater and television, known for his roles in productions such as ‘Brujas’, ‘La Nany’, ‘Casado con Hijos’, and ‘Loca Piel’. Beyond his acting career, he was a co-founder of the influential theater company Teatro Aparte and served as a professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

In recent years, Prieto had been managing health challenges following a severe bout of COVID-19 in 2022, which resulted in multi-system organ failure and a prolonged period in intensive care. Despite these complications, he had successfully returned to the stage in early 2025, appearing in the play ‘La Nona’.
