Chilean Air Force deploys F-16 Block 50 for southern training
The Chilean Air Force (FACh) is conducting a military deployment and training exercise in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region. As part of this operation, five F-16C/D Block 50 fighter jets from Aviation Group No. 3, based in Iquique, have been operating out of Chabunco Air Base in Punta Arenas.
During the deployment, which began on September 21 and is expected to conclude around October 10, aircraft have conducted flyovers in areas including the Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas, Porvenir, and Puerto Williams near the Beagle Channel. The mission serves to exercise pilots, logistics, and unit operability.
Additionally, FACh hosted military and police authorities at Chabunco Air Base to demonstrate the technical and operational capabilities of the Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 50. The presentation covered the aircraft's role as a multirole fighter for air defense, surveillance, interception, and surface attack, as well as maintenance procedures and the integration of air operations centers.
