Chilean Army conducts Karukinka 2026 logistics exercise in Tierra del Fuego
The Chilean Army's 5th Army Division, specifically the Magallanes Logistics Regiment No. 5, conducted the “Karukinka 2026” joint exercise on Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. Led by the Austral Joint Command under Brigadier General Jorge Hinojosa R., the maneuver aimed to test supply chains and force projection capabilities in isolated geographies with variable weather conditions.
The operation utilized a bimodal transport system. While motorized columns moved from Punta Arenas through Porvenir to the Timaukel commune, the Chilean Air Force (FACh) transported heavy cargo from the Chabunco Air Base to the Russfin airfield. Once landed, the cargo was integrated into the terrestrial logistics network for final distribution.
During the exercise, troops from the “Caupolicán” Motorized Detachment received various classes of supplies (I, II, V, and VII). Military personnel emphasized the importance of synchronizing logistics and route timing to maintain operational readiness in the extreme conditions of the Patagonian region.
