Chilean Army participates in UN peacekeeping missions
The Chilean Army maintains personnel deployed in Colombia, Cyprus, and the Middle East as part of various United Nations peacekeeping missions. These deployments focus on monitoring peace agreements, preventing new confrontations, and ensuring security in conflict-affected zones.
In Colombia, personnel participate in the United Nations Verification Mission (UNVMC) to monitor the 2016 Final Peace Agreement. In Cyprus, the institution has been part of the UNFICYP mission since 2003, performing duties such as ceasefire supervision, patrols, and civilian support in the buffer zone between Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.
In the Middle East, Chile has participated in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) since 1997. This includes roles in the Golan-Damascus Observer Group, where personnel monitor the ceasefire between Israel and Syria. Before deployment, staff undergo specialized training at the Joint Center for Peace Operations (CECOPAC) in international regulations and multinational procedures.
