Chilean authorities conduct mass evictions of illegal settlements
Authorities in Chile have initiated large-scale evictions of illegal settlements in Curanilahue and Colina. In Curanilahue, 63 families were removed from the La Virgen sector following a Court of Appeals ruling. This operation was conducted under the government's security plan, with 45 families relocated to land donated by Arauco and others moving in with relatives.
In Colina, the eviction of the Aconcagua camp involves more than 900 families. Local officials stated that residents had been notified for over a year. To assist the transition, the Ministry of Housing has made 72 rental subsidies available, and the municipality is providing social support, temporary shelter, and logistical help for moving belongings. Authorities emphasized that while state aid is being coordinated, the occupation of private land cannot be permitted.
