Latin American regions deploy aid for climate-related agricultural and infrastructure damage

Various Latin American regions are responding to agricultural and infrastructure damage caused by extreme weather events, including droughts, floods, and hurricanes.

In Chile, authorities in the Los Ríos region are deploying aid, including animal feed, to farmers affected by an atmospheric river. Meanwhile, in the Coquimbo region, the National Irrigation Commission is working on water infrastructure improvements to increase climate resilience.

In Mexico, drought in Quintana Roo is threatening maize crops for approximately 8,000 producers. In Sonora, Senasica is coordinating efforts to reactivate a TIF inspection facility flooded by Hurricane Polo. Additionally, in Torreón, municipal authorities are managing flood risks and road closures following heavy rainfall.

In Guatemala, Conred is preparing to distribute food rations to families affected by drought, following a budget increase to address crop losses affecting hundreds of thousands of families. In Colombia, the government and Bavaria have launched the ‘Ruta Milagro’ to support 3,500 businesses recovering from an earthquake.
