Chilean authorities deploy emergency plans for pilgrimage and storm response

Authorities in Chile have activated emergency protocols to manage different regional situations. In Arica y Parinacota, a security and prevention plan has been deployed for the Virgen de Las Peñas pilgrimage. The operation, coordinated by the Regional Presidential Delegate and COGRID, involves the Army, Carabineros, and SENAPRED to provide medical assistance, hydration, and monitoring along the 20-kilometer route through the San José riverbed.

Simultaneously, in Temuco, municipal authorities have reinforced emergency coordination due to a severe storm. Mayor Roberto Neira reported that over 100 municipal employees and 14 emergency brigades are deployed alongside Carabineros and firefighters. The storm has caused street closures and complications on the Temuco-Labranza route, prompting calls for residents to avoid unnecessary travel and for the Ministry of Public Works to intervene in affected areas.
