Chilean authorities intensify grill safety inspections
Chilean energy authorities, including the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) and the Regional Ministry of Energy, have intensified inspections of electric and gas grills ahead of the 2026 Fiestas Patrias celebrations. These operations are being conducted in regions such as Valparaíso and Tarapacá to ensure that all commercialized equipment carries the mandatory SEC seal and a valid QR code for safety verification.
Inspectors are specifically checking the condition of pressure regulators and flexible hoses to prevent accidents. Authorities have advised consumers to verify expiration dates on these components and to ensure that gas cylinders are never placed directly beneath burners, as compartments are not designed for that purpose. Mobile gas grills must only be used with liquefied gas cylinders and never connected to fixed residential gas networks.
Regarding the use of gas grills in apartment buildings, officials clarified that under the Co-ownership Law, individual residential communities have the authority to decide whether or not to permit such equipment on balconies or terraces.
