Chilean authorities launch operations against livestock theft and forestry crimes

Authorities in Chile have launched several inter-institutional operations to combat illegal activities and ensure regulatory compliance across different sectors.

In the Biobío region, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and Carabineros de Chile conducted inspections on animal transport in Mulchén. The operation aims to enforce animal welfare, traceability, and meat laws, while also preventing cattle theft (abigeato) ahead of national holidays. Officials are verifying transport certifications, driver training, and individual identification devices for livestock.

In the Malleco Province of La Araucanía, a joint operation involving the Army, Carabineros, the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), and the Internal Revenue Service (SII) targeted forestry crimes. Focused on Route R-49, the mission seeks to verify the legal origin and tax documentation of timber shipments to combat organized crime.

Additionally, in Carahue, municipal authorities and Carabineros conducted monitoring to prevent illegal aggregate extraction. Following aerial surveillance via drone, an individual was detained in the Isla Pancul sector for unauthorized extraction near the Imperial River. Such operations aim to protect environmental zones and enforce local ordinances against unregulated mining activities.
