Chilean broadcasters TVN and Canal 13 report increased losses
Major Chilean television networks TVN and Canal 13 reported significant financial losses for the first half of 2026.
TVN reported pre-tax losses of $7,925.6 million for the first semester, an increase from the $1,818.5 million loss recorded during the same period in 2025. The state-owned broadcaster saw an 8% drop in total revenue, falling to $22,291.13 million. This decline was driven largely by a 10.6% decrease in open television advertising revenue. The company noted ongoing financial challenges related to debt levels and a state-guaranteed credit due in April 2027.
Canal 13, owned by Andrónico Luksic, more than doubled its losses, reporting $7,364 million for the first semester compared to $3,091 million in the previous year. Despite a 3.3% increase in revenue to $38,389 million, the station faced a 17.33% rise in costs, totaling $36,996 million. The company noted that its revenue growth occurred despite a broader 6.7% industry-wide decline in advertising income. Canal 13 plans to focus on original content production to grow its audience for the remainder of the year.
