Chilean business landscape: financing and financial management

Recent analyses of the Chilean business landscape highlight the critical role of structured financial data and diverse funding sources for company growth. Jean Boudeguer, CEO of the financial management platform Clay, emphasizes that entrepreneurs often struggle with precarious access to organized financial information, which is essential for interacting with banks and investors. He notes that rapid growth without financial sustainability can lead to cash flow crises, suggesting that companies must balance expansion with profitability.

Complementary research using data from the Longitudinal Survey of Companies (ELE) examines how different financing methods impact performance in Chile. Findings indicate that equity and bond issuances positively influence sales, labor productivity, and capital productivity. While supplier credit and public financing improve sales and labor productivity, they do not appear to impact capital productivity. The research also highlights a divide in financing preferences based on company size: micro and small enterprises tend to favor external financing, whereas medium and large enterprises rely more on internal funds.
