Chilean Chamber of Deputies approves National Teletón Day

The Chilean Chamber of Deputies has unanimously approved a bill to establish the National Teletón Day and the National Family Encounter Day. The initiative, which received 138 votes, designates the first Saturday of November as the National Teletón Day and the following Sunday as the National Family Encounter Day.

Following its unanimous approval in both the Senate and the Chamber, the project is now ready for promulgation by the Executive. The Ministry of Social Development and Family will be tasked with promoting public awareness of these new commemorations.

Legislators and government officials highlighted the importance of providing formal state recognition to the Teletón Foundation, which provides free rehabilitation and inclusion services to approximately 32,000 children and youth across its institutes. Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, José García Ruminot, noted that the institution previously lacked a formal institutional framework to ensure the stability of its annual solidarity campaigns.
